Even if no one's paying attention, I'm gonna load this thread up with Billy bizness until we get the book out. Check out iFanboy's coverage of Comic-Con.

Opens with video of Matthew Fox thanking me for being a genius, and later on you can see the Apacolypstix guys and Chuck BB interviewed about their work:

What stage is the movie in? I think Matthew Fox is one of those guys that just makes a movie cooler with him just being in it.wetterletters.com

The movie is in stage "waiting for the comic book to get done."

At this point he's pretty jazzed about it, though.

Who says no one is paying attention? Okay so we aren't necessarily comic book junkies, but there are a ton of MF fans dying to hear more about this. We have one small request. Please make the movie script Rated R for language, violence, and gratuitous nudity. ; )

Looking forward to reading more so please do load this thread up with Billy bizness. : )
  4.
Heck, yeah! I'm with Flyer, rated R, please :-D

But seriously, had I not been a fan of Matthew Fox I probably wouldn't have known about this project at such an early stage, and I don't mind communicating to other MF fans that this is in the works, you know, create some buzz for it.

It looks like an interesting, dark story, and I'm certainly looking forward to that. Please keep us updated, Clay!

Both a Matthew Fox and Comics fan, so this is heaven for me. Bring it on!

    Hey, Clay!

I read on your blog that Billy Smoke is picking up speed. That's great news. Can you tell us when we'll get our first glimpse of the 2D version? I know it'll be after Christmas, but that's all I want from Santa.

    Thanks!

PS: I echo the calls for dark brooding, violence, swearing and nakedness, all things which the Fox was born to delight us with on the big screen.
PPS: His love interest's name MUST be Laura and she must have a pretty butt. Just trust me on this one. Fangirls will be a key part of your audience on this one.

No, no, no, no, no! His love interest must have an exotic name, something never before heard in Hollywood. Something like, let me think.... Yoli! Yes, that's it! She shall be named Yoli, and he shall say her name many times while in the throes of passion.... PERFECT!

Her name should be Gertrude.  Loszar Gertrude Fakkenbottom.

Scratch that.  I'm totally banking that name.

We just fell off the awesome end

Hm... I don't know. I've always like Bertha myself. Or Mabel. Or even Myrtle.

How about... Mildred, the Cute But Deadly Assassin Next Door?

So how's works going on? Any idea when the movie will be made? I kind of can't wait for it... :) Oh, and one would think the setting for such a story will be approprietly grim and dim and dodgy... You know, Eastern Europe is full of such places. And cheap! Just sayin'...
As to Billy Smoke's love ineterest... Assuming there is one... Can she please be made to look like Monica Bellucci? Please?

Somehow I missed the follow-ups on this thread, so I'll make sure to check in more often.

Right now we're aiming for April of 2010 as the launch date for the book.

As for a love interest...by the time we catch up with Billy, he's lost the love of his life. It's part of what drives him.

I promise I will from here on out.

Can't give away too many Hollywood details, but everyone at Warner Bros. is seriously jazzed about this one. Moving quickly.

Awesome news about WB's level of excitement, Clay. We are hoping to hear more about this as you progress. Do you know when you start filming? I can already see the scenes playing out in those wonderfully dark European cities with their old buildings shadowed in moonlight!

Waaay too early in the process for that, but if we can maintain the current level of excitement, we should be in good shape.

You never know what's going to happen, but we're doing our best to keep enthusiasm high.

*sigh* April of 2010 is just so far away... Thanks for giving us a date though.

I intend to bring my geek friends onboard of this project early on, tantalizing them with the possibility of being ahead of the curve on this one but I need a little help... What should my sales pitch be based on? Anything more you can tell me aside from the little blurb we got so far? I was particularly curious if there's going to be any sort of... period feel to the comic? Is it going to be set in a contemporary era? Futuristic/stylized, etc.?

I don't know if you've seen our suggestions for your heroine's name (she'll always be Bertha to me...) but that got me wondering if you have the characters fleshed out already or is it too early for that as well?

OMG! (or is it cooler to say ZOMG!!!? ;-))

    Hollywood Reporter, baby!

I guess excitement was really high! Woo hooo! So happy for you guys, and for seeing that the project is becoming a reality with all these people signing on...

We (that'd be me and the rest of the Foxy-obssessed fans that have invaded this here blog) have been wanting to see Foxy in a dark role like this for ages, Vantage Point was not enough! And Haunted, while brilliant (how delicious is it to see Foxy tied to a bed), was tame, as it was a primetime Network series.

So, write him dark, make him tortured, make him ruthless, and reward us with some classy gratuitous adult content, and we'll be very happy campers. But, if you manage to make him grow back his wonderful chest hair and then show it to us on the big screen we will worship you!! :-D

On a related, but serious, matter, is the graphic novel going to be released outside the US?

The setting sort of shifts based on the characters Billy's dealing with, taking him from an elegant country manor to an urban coffee shop to a decaying industrial city.

The "cool factor" is largely driven by the crazy contract killers he goes up against, which include a pretty young socialite who inherited the family business from her father, a British hulk who literally mangles people with his hands, and a hitman with a rap star style posse and gold-plated 9 millimeters...

I'm not sure how Oni's international distribution is handled, to be honest, although I should know that by now.

Glad to see they finally announced this tidbit. All indications are that Fox's guys and the studio love what Nachmanoff brings to the table, so we're pretty jazzed.

If you do find out about distribution, let us know. Our group is scattered all over the world, so, it'd be nice to be know if they can get the book in their own countries.
