Christopher's penultimate design for Michael, with more emphasis on home-repaired clothing to put across his decades of wandering in the desert. The only thing really different between this design and the next, final sketch...

...is the hat. But what a difference it makes!

The final design for Abi, with a slightly more 'gunslinger' feel than Christopher's first designs. Well, she is a Sheriff.

Doc, who's gained quite a bit of hair and some nattier threads since Christopher's first sketches, as befits a man of Doc's standing in Providence.

The final design for Golden Voice the sun-singer. The tattoos are part of a singer's faith in Mother Sun, hence why many of them are stylised sunburst designs. This is the last appearance of his spooky feathers, but he kept the staff.

A Sand-Eater, one of the blackened and twisted devils of the desert whom Michael fights in issue #1. The script called for them to be “lizard-like”, hence the minimal nose and lips, pinned-back ears and odd mandible.

Last but not least, the finished sketch of Jakob, leader of the Providence trading party and Abi's constant companion. This was a challenge, as Jakob had the potential to be confused with Michael from a distance, what with their wardrobe being very similar. Christopher solved the problem by giving Jakob the hat Michael was no longer using.
